How to make your home cosy this winter

Don’t let the cold weather get you down! There are ways to cosy up your home and actually enjoy these cold winter months. Here are some easy things you can do to create a warm ambience:

Comforting dishes

The cold winter months often make us crave hearty meals or junk food – but definitely something warm, filling and delicious. Food helps us keep warm, fuels our metabolism and is a great reason to come together as a family or a group of friends.Make sure your kitchen is kitted out this winter with all the essentials. It’s the perfect time to experiment with soups, curry and stews. Invest in a gas stove to make the winter cooking quicker and save electricity. Maybe getting a Nutribullet in winter is not a bad idea – it will help whip up healthy and hearty soups.

Make the lounge warmer

Winter is the perfect time to move around your furniture and position things a little closer together. Make sure you have comfortable couches and a decently sized TV – your family will definitely be spending most of their time in the lounge. Place cosy throws and blankets with colours and prints that complement the furniture in your space. Throws will add to the aesthetics of your room, while being close at hand when you need them.

Bedroom basics

Make your bedroom a calming and soothing place where you can retreat and recharge after a long day. It’s tougher to get up in winter but having a comfortable bed is crucial for the long winter months. Start by changing your linen, pack away the thin cotton and replace it with cotton flannel linen. Add to your bedroom with pedestals and a headboard, warmth is guaranteed the fuller it is. Consider getting a TV in your room so you can spend your weekends catching up on your favourite series in bed.

Keep your slippers and gown near your bed to keep the warmth in as soon as you get out of bed and remember to open your windows for at least 10-20 minutes every day to get some fresh air and be sure to open the curtains for some sunlight to increase happiness.

Indoor fun

While staying indoors can often feel boring and repetitive, there are actually plenty of fun things you can do to pass the time inside on a cold winter day. Spend the day in your pyjamas with a good book or a movie marathon with the family. Get the latest Xbox or PS4 with games to keep you entertained or get the whole family involved in baking and trying out new recipes.
